Toursis a city located in the centre-west ofFrance. It is the administrative centre of theIndre-et-Loiredepartmentand the largest city in theCentre-Val de Loireregion of France. Standingon the lower reaches of theRiver Loire, between Orléans and theAtlanticcoast -the surrounding district, thetraditional provinceofTouraine, is known for its wines, for the alleged perfection (as perceived by some speakers and for historical reasons) of its local spoken French, and for theBattle of Tours(732). The city is also the end-point of the annualParis–Tourscycle race.
