Fátimais acivil parishin themunicipalityofOurém, in thePortugueseSantarém District. The parish encompasses several villages and localities of which Fátima, with a population of 7,756 residents, is the largest. Part of the urban agglomeration ofLeiria, it is 187km (116mi) south ofPortoand 123km (76mi) north ofLisbon. It has been permanently associated with theMarian apparitionsthat occurred inCova da Iriain 1917 and which were later recognized by theCatholic Church.
