Asiagois the name of both a major Italian PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) cheese and a minor township in the surrounding plateau region (theAltopiano di AsiagoorAltopiano dei Sette Comuni,Asiago plateau) in theProvince of Vicenzain theVenetoregion of NortheasternItaly.
The Asiago region is the origin ofAsiago cheese. The town was the site of amajor battlebetween Austrian and Italian forces on theAlpine FrontofWorld War I. It is a major ski resort destination as well as the site of theAstrophysical Observatory of Asiago, operated by theUniversity of Padua.
